Grace Wilkin is 14 years old. She inspires her village friends, her school friends and the wider community with her enthusiasm and energy. At Penzance Sailing Club, Grace is an assistant instructor, having passed the Royal Yatching Association training programme. She teaches sailing to children from schools in the area and very much enjoys passing on her sailing knowledge. She helps the youngsters prepare their boats and then advises out on the water. It is something she would like to do more of. Grace participates in inter school and inter club sailing competitions and in 2009 won the Cornwall Schools Sailing Regatta. She was also Penxzance Sailing Club's Junior Sailor of the Year. Grace has won many club awards and has recently been awarded a Scott Award by the Rona Sailing Trust and invited to become a Watch leader, to help give other children the opportunity for adventure and team work. Grace has also helmed a boat in a 3 day offshore sialing race and was a valued member of the racing team. For the last 2 years Grace has organised her village friends to give an annual community feast for her local village in the community hall to raise money to sponsor 2 children, 1 in Ethiopia and 1 in Burkino Faso. This event gives the children in the village the opportunity to learn new skills in the preparation of food and to consider the wider world community. They cook a 3 course meal and perform music and other entertainment. Grace is an inspiration to everyone she meets.
