John Bickers

My father John Bickers was one of the torch bearers at the 1948 Games in London. He carried the torch into Shaftesbury having run with it for two miles - he was nominated to carry the flame as he was a very good three-miler in the British Army. John is now 84 years of age but still very fit - he is a selfless man who would be so very proud to once again have the opportunity to carry the flame at the 2012 Games in London - it would be a unique achievement to have carried the torch at two Olympiads (with a gap of 64 years in between !).
