Gerry's nomination story

Gerry has assumed the chair this year of a large Macmillan Cancer Support Fundraising committee in Holmfirth West Yorkshire and across the North Eastern Region, at short notice after the sudden and tragic death of the last Chairman who had been in role for over 21 years.

Gerry has worked in a fund raising role since 2001.

A national Art exhibition is organised by Gerry and his committee each year and this one event alone raises over £38,000.

Coffee mornings are held nationally and across the region as part of the Macmillan National Event. Gerry is aiming to break the record this year by travelling to and drinking coffee at 18 coffee mornings across the region in one morning at the end of September.

Gerry organises craft fairs three times a year.

Supermarket collections on wet and windy days as well as on pleasant sunny days.15 days per year

Sponsored events including regular running events in 10 kilometre races 5 per year all raising funds for Macmillan.

Last year in what was bemoaned as a bad year it raised £60,000 but now Gerry is on track to both meet and exceed that fiqure.

He maintains a strong work life balance and has the support of his wife and two children who are also involved in his charitable work.

Last January Gerry reduced his paid hours by two days a week to undertake Macmillan duties but he still works lots of unpaid hours to keep his business commitments on track. CR
