I would like to nominate Geraldine due to her selflessness towards others. Geraldine lost both parents to cancer within 2 years of each other and became am ambassador for cancer awareness, healthy eating and raising the importance of exercise regardless of age. Geraldine has raised over £8,000 pounds for cancer research through various fitness projects and nights out ect. A good example would be her and 5 friends walking from Lurgan Co.Armagh to O'Connell St in Dublin. Geraldine has also ran the Belfast Marathon and the Great North Run with all money raised being donated to Cancer Research, Meningitis Research and Macmillan nurses. Geraldine is a very well known figure in her local community due to vibrant personality and her continuous charity work as is know as 'the walker'. On the 4th of January this year Geraldine was given the devastating news that her husband of 36 years had bowel cancer. Geraldine has been a pillar of strength to both her husband ond her 2 children putting her own feelings aside to keep the family going and has attended every chemo session with her husband despite her enormous fear of needles. I am confident that the whole community would back me in my nomination for Geraldine to be an olympic torch bearer as she is a living example of what the games stand for and lives the values of 'respect, excellence and friendship'.
