Geraint was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in 1996, at the age of 15, and endured 18 months of treatment in Christies Hospital, Manchester, 120 miles from his home in Mid Wales. Ger then had to take chemotherapy pills for an additional 3 years. He has gone on to complete his education and while at university in Cardiff took up rifle shooting, going on to represent Wales on several occasions. Ger has also taken up cycling and has raised over £9k for Leukaemia Research with rides from Holyhead to Cardiff, Cardiff to Paris and Paris to Monte Carlo with his riding partner Gareth King. Their latest challenge was to cycle from Holyhead to Cardiff in under 24hrs to raise money for Lymphoma Research in memory of one of their friends who died last year. This challenge was completed in 23hrs and they raised over £6k. I feel that to carry the torch would be a fitting reward for Ger.
