George Treadwell

George is 22 but has already achieved so much. At the age of 17 he joined the Royal Marines and worked hard to gain his green beret. He spent two tours on the front line in Afghanistan, as a Viking driver, being present when losing close friends on both occasions. Despite this experience since leaving the Marines last year, he has gone on to train as an outdoor instructor, working with troubled teenagers and disabled children, teaching them to climb and sail. He is an inspirational force, in his spare time setting up his own paintball site, single handedly building the business up and running parties for adults and children alike. George also continues to give two evenings a week to the local Sea Cadet Unit, helping to inspire youngsters with his knowledge and experience of life in the Marines. He takes them out on weekends to learn skills, and spends many hours putting together presentations and activities to challenge the cadets. He is a role model and selfless in his commitment. Last year he applied to join Gatwick Fire Service and over the last few months has faced a rigorous selection process. He has now been accepted and will start in his new role in June 2011. I am extremely proud of my son, who started out in life at school having been diagnosed with ADHD and with little hope of achieving much-according to his teachers and his peers- but has gone on to achieve great things and give so much to both our Country and our Community.
