George's nomination story

18 year old George has inspired many people both on and off the sports field by his commitment, determination and positive attitude. Despite being born profoundly deaf and relying on a cochlear implant to give him a sense of hearing he has always worked hard against the odds to compete alongside his hearing peers. At the age of 15 he was selected to play for the County of Dorset under 16's Football Team and has continued playing at a good standard starting full season of mens football in August always having to go the extra mile to prove himself. He has also already completed his Level 2 FA Coaching qualification alongside studying for a Sports Coaching Diploma. Despite the potential social and communication difficulties he deals with as a result of his deafness he is a true team player in everything he does, supporting and encouraging others in a selfless way. Many people who have encountered him in his everyday life comment on his positive attitude and kind personality. George always has to work harder and give that bit more to succeed but he does so willingly and without complaint and is an inspiration to everyone around him to strive to improve and try to achieve what may seem to be impossible. He deserves the honour of carrying the Olympic Flame to show him the respect that other people have for him and the positive impact he has on their lives.
