George has supported Macmillan Cancer Support since 1998 and to date has done a staggering 32 challenges, raising an amazing £104, 467 - and he is not stopping there! In 2012 George is hoping to reach his golden target of raising £100,000 for Macmillan by completing the London Marathon in the Olympic year. George has completed a range of challenges including cycling across Mexico, Lands End to John O`Groats, climbing Kilimanjaro and most recently climbing to the Everest Base Camp at the grand age of 74! Not only is his dedication to raising such valuable funds for Macmillan something to celebrate but also his character is what makes him incredibly special. Everyone that has completed a hiking challenge for the charity will know who George is - no one else comes near completing 32 challenges, not even staff! On every trip George is fantastic at making first-timers feel at ease, provides encouragement and shares his knowledge. George is incredibly passionate about the 2012 London Olympics and has applied to be a volunteer, we cannot think of a greater way in which to thank George for his continual support and hard work than to nominate him to be torchbearer. If he did get the honour we know he would be absolutely thrilled and we would be incredibly proud. George gives so much time and energy in supporting people living with cancer in the UK it would be fantastic to give him an opportunity back that he will treasure forever.
