Robin's nomination story

Robin worked in education for 39 years, during which time he inspired many pupils with his committment and enthusiasm. He ran various school teams and as BBA Level 2 coach has entered boys and girls teams in National competitions. He provided basketball coaching for feeder primary schools, entering teams in inter league school competitions. 3 years running he was South Lakes District Coach for basketball in the Cumbria Youth Games. In 2002 he was awarded the Commonwealth Games Certificate by Sport England and Cumbria Sport Partnership for services to sport. He was Founder Chairman of Grange and District Junior Football Club for 8 years, for 6 of those he was the club's Under 10's coach. He was also Founder President for Cartmel Valley Baseball Lions. He played first XV for Vale of Lune, Preston Grasshoppers and Kendal Rugby Union Clubs as well as playing for Springfields Hockey Club Preston. In 1965 he played his first game for Cartmel Cricket Club and has played intermitently since, finishing in 2009 following a knee replacement. In addition to his sporting achievements he has been awarded a Royal British Legion Poppy Collector's long srvice award. He was Chairman of Grange Round Table. For the last 4 years he has been sidesperson at St Paul's Parish Church and a town Councillor. He is Chairman of Grange Christmas Tree (6 years) and has been a committee member for 10 years. He is recognised as a local historian and provides walks and talks to raise money for charity.
