Gavin's nomination story

Gavin was very seriously injured whilst serving with the Army in Afghanistan in August 2009, he lost both his legs, shattered his pelvis and suffered multiple internal injuries after spending 10 and a half weeks in hospital he was finally discharged. Since then he has been an inspiration to all who know him in his determination to live life to the full and still be a very active father to our 2 very young daughters. He is also an Ambassador for ABF The Soldiers Charity and has helped raise the profile of the charity, he also actively uses his skills as a REME mechanic within another non-profit orgabisation, Project Mobility, which aims to have the first fully disabled British Rally Team to compete in the Dakar rally in 2013. In December 2009 he was selected to open the new state of the art military super-gym in Tidworth Garrison on account that the reason he survived such a huge bomb blast was becuase he was soo physically fit. He really is an inspiration to all who know him and have the pleasure to meet him, he recently won the title of Wiltshire's Armed Forces Hero of the Year at the Wiltshire Life awards, which goes to reinforce peoples high regard for Gavin.
