Gary is a former Special Olympian power lifter. Knowing the challenges that he personally faced trying to access gyms, Gary wanted to ensure that other disabled people did not face the same barriers in the future. Gary was the inspiration for the Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) that over 10 years has changed the culture of the fitness industry. Stimulating over £20million investment, 500+ UK fitness centres now meet the IFI's standards with accessible facilities, inclusive fitness equipment, trained staff and marketing that promotes inclusive fitness opportunities. Now in his late 40's, Gary no longer competes but still works out independently in his local gym 3 times a week. Carrying the Olympic Torch would give Gary his '?moment to shine', to celebrate inclusion and to recognise Gary's contribution to stimulating healthy lifestyle opportunities for all disabled people whilst also providing a training environment that will support the Paralympians of the future.
