Gareth for starters is my little brother. He is a very special young man, who has severe learning difficulties and physical dyspraxia. When he was at school he enjoyed all aspects of school life, learning new skills like computing and extending his love of music. But there is one thing he loved more than anything else; Sport!! He looked forward every week to P.E. and swimming. Here is where I believe he developed and improved his movement as he never walked until he was 4 years old. Gareth joined in all school activities and was a friend to all the teachers and pupils of Ceara Special School in Lurgan. When he was at school he joined the Ripples Special Olympics Club, which he still attends to date, going to swimming club twice a week and ten pin bowling every weekend. Gareth tries on all occassions, whether its practice or competition, to be the best sportsman he can be, obtaining medals at the Ulster Special Olympic Games in both swimming and bowling. Gareth is a true inspiration to everyone who meets him, as he has never let his disabilities get him down and always lives life to the full. This is clear to see by the huge smile that is never off his face!! He is a true gentleman and would be very proud if he could carry the torch of this huge sporting event!!
