Freda's nomination story

Former England International player Freda Bussey has been the secretary of Ashcombe Volleyball Club for almost 35 years after founding the club in 1976. This club, run by volunteers, has had an amazing impact both in the local community and on the national volleyball scene. Over 30 International volleyball players have come through Freda's development programme and the junior squads have featured in various age group National Finals since 1978. Freda was instrumental in developing The Ashcombe Volleyball Centre at The Ashcombe School and also in the construction of a new beach court facility in Worthing. Freda is also a registered referee and training to be a scorer at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Freda has also been involved in the management of volleyball from a local and national level, serving on county, regional and national committees. In addition to achieving and contributing so much herself, Freda is extremely supportive of new volunteers to the sport. It would be wonderful to recognise this commitment to volleyball by offering Freda the opportunity to be a Torch Bearer.
