Keith Musto

In 1964, at the Tokyo Olympics, Keith won Britain's only sailing medal of the Games; a silver in the Flying Dutchman class. Keith was a true inspiration to future Olympic sailors. He was one of the first British Olympic sailors to approach his campaign in a different way focusing primarily on fitness. This was well before the days of specially designed fitness programmes and he and his crew decided that the only way they could win a medal was to exercise regularly and get fit. It paid off and this approach influenced future British Olympic sailing campaigns. He then went on to be a technical innovator setting up a sail making company and then Musto clothing. Keith has also been a Director at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy for the last eight years helping to develop this world class sailing venue and is now really excited about the Games coming to Britain. Keith has always been a great supporter of the British Olympic and Paralympic sailing team and for all these reasons we would like to nominate him to be a Torchbearer.
