In younger days he was Commonwealth Games steeplechaser for Guernsey, cross country running Champion for Devon, South West Counties and the Royal Navy; cross country skier and had a life's work in the Forces. He quietly supported his wife's Poppy Appeal (raising £12 000) and assisted with a Help for Heroes event. Now he is actively working behind the scenes in village life; fundraising, cleaning the church and even flower arranging for church festivals. He bell rings for several churches and contributes positively to the local community. But nothing outshines the work he does as a swim-buddy for Andy, my disabled husband, year in year out, accompanying him in the water, supporting and encouraging, and allowing Andy a weekly opportunity to swim freely and regain his dignity and independence. Frank Allen goes the extra mile every week for Andy and would be such a worthy torchbearer.
