Fi's nomination story

Fi's incredible energy and enthusiasm has seen her volunteer for Pz Women's Aid, Traveller Space (supporting gypsies&travellers) Planit-Earth eco project, and Transition Penwith sustainability forum. She's also raised 1000s of £s for charity by trekking to Everest for Scope £3700 + Machu Picchu for ShelterBox £4500, parachute jumping for domestic violence £200, running the Race for Life twice for Cancer £380, and a one mile seaswim 7 times for Macmillon £90. A singer in a ten-piece Ska band, the band itself has done countless benefit gigs over the past decade, raising money for many many causes. Playing pubs, parties+festivals (including Glastonbury) their most memorable gig was for 27,000 people marching through Hayle protesting against threatened hospital cuts. Fi also sings in a 40 strong choir performing with Wildworks Theatre and at Eden. A freelance writer, poet and fimmaker, hosting spoken word events and contributing to the local art scene, her weekly column in the paper highlights community events. Mock Mayor of Penzance for 2yrs, she's been on festival committees and attended council meetings to help promote Penwith culture. As a single-parent, she says her biggest achievement was gaining an MA in Writing, studying fulltime+working part-time with four kids at home. Tagged 'Penzance's coolest grandma' when she competed on BBC1s Total Wipeout gameshow, she's always up for any challenge. A keen swimmer, surfer, cyclist and truly inspirational figure who never says No
