Fiona is a pupil at Ecclesbourne School in Derbyshire and is an inspiration to staff, pupils and parents through her dedication to swimming. Fiona has been selected twice to represent GB at the European Junior Championships, reaching the finals in the 400freestyle and winning a silver medal in the 4x200freestyle relay. Fiona is a multi medal winner at her national age group and has been selected twice to represent Central England in the UK School Games, medalling on both occasions. Fiona is the current Scottish senior short course champion at 50fly, 100back and 800freestyle, despite being only 16 years old. She has represented Scotland at the Celtic Tri-Nations medalling in the 400freestyle and the 4x200freestyle relay. She continues to be a Scottish age group record holder in several events.
Fiona is an extremely disciplined young lady who never complains about her early morning starts and long days, managing in her limited time to maintain a high standard of school work in an important GCSE year. To accommodate her 6 day a week training schedule Fiona has had to forgo much of her social life, missing out on parties, school trips and social events with her friends. Holidays are also limited due to the 49 weeks a year she competes.
Despite her 19 hour a week swimming programme on top of her normal school day, and at only 16, Fiona's positve and happy outlook on life is an inspiration to all around her and it would be a fitting reward for her to be selected as a torch bearer.
