Fergus's nomination story

Fergus has played a pivotal role in inspiring other young people in Hampshire to volunteer with the British Red Cross. He started as a peer educator and has trained nearly 3,000 young people. He is now a First Aid Trainer in Portsmouth, teaching adults and young people, including more difficult to reach groups such as young offenders and young carers. He took on a lead role in our HIV awareness team and sat on the youth board of the Terrance Higgins Trust. Fergus has more recently organised a specifically tailored course for young mums which he piloted with the assistance of the Youth Coordinator and ran / evaluated the course in Leigh Park and Havant area - which have a high teenage pregnancy rate. He also helped produced a training pack for Street Skills designed to teach young people about first aid for vulnerable communities that are affected by violence and crime.
