Philip's nomination story

Phil is a very busy man, he is a surgeon at our local hospital, and we all wonder how he finds time to work. His life revolves around sport. He is the driving force behind both Scalby Football Club and Scalby Cricket Club and is an inspiration to everyone concerned. The football club has 2 senior teams and 6 junior teams and Phil not only acts as secretary but he is always available for grass cutting and white lining when required. Phil never says 'no'. 2012 is our centenary, we are the oldest club in the Scarbough Football League, and it would be a fatastic tribute to the club and to Phil in our special year. It would be a wonderful way to 'kick off' our celebrations. Phil's winter month's are taken up with football, not only as secretary, but also as trainer and supporter to both junior and senior teams,as well as all the other tasks he does willingly. In the summer cricket dominates his life, not only being secretary to 4 senior teams and 5 junior teams but he manages to play for the 2nd team. He is a real inspiration to all our players (ranging from 6 to 70 years old) and all the families that are involved, mainly because of Phil's enthusiasm. Everyone knows and loves Phil. I feel that he is an exceptional man and sportsman, and it would be a fitting tribute to him and the club if this unsung hero was given the oportunity to carry the Olympic Torch. Yours in sport Peter Afford Chairman Scalby Football Club PS Phil has a very patient and understanding wife!!!
