Eric's nomination story

Two or three days a week Eric logs on as a volunteer first responder with the Welsh ambulance service. He is on call with a defribulator and oxygen and other equipment ready to respond quickly to any heart attack or other serious illness/injury situation that may happen within a 10 mile radius of his home. He was a founder member of the Torfaen First responder group. The group is a vital link in responding quickly to emergencies and providing life saving treatment until the Paramedics arrive on scene.

Eric is also very active as a St John ambulance volunteer and most weekends he volunteers his time to cover duties ranging from village fetes and gymkhanas to professional sporting events. Eric has recently been accepted as a Games Maker for the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympic Games. He will serve as a medical volunteer throughout both events thus sacrificing practically all his annual leave to do so. Eric also gives up much of his free time to teach first aid to others. He does this as a St John volunteer and privately for various church groups and at centres caring for vulnerable adults with severe learning difficulties.
