Eric has given 50 years of voluntary service to the international charity, St John Ambulance. He joined the organisation as a Cadet and has gone on to provide first aid cover at hundreds of events nationwide. He has taken on more and more responsibility, initially by training other people in first aid skills and then in a management role. In his current position as the Commissioner for Operations in Hampshire he gives up hundreds of hours every year to ensure that first aid cover is provided at a wide range of events across Hampshire. He rarely has a day where he does not do some work in support of St John Ambulance. Eric receives no monetary reward for the work he does but without his hard work, which goes unseen by both other members of the organisation and the general public, many events would not receive the first aid cover they require. The dedication that Eric has shown to undertaking charitable work for half a century is truly inspiring.
