Emma's nomination story

Emma is currently completing a BTEC in Travel & Tourism and an A-Level in Spanish at Salford City College. As well as achieving extremely well in her studies, Emma has an exemplary track record in the community and has made outstanding personal achievements, overcome personal barriers and made a difference in the process. Emma has been part of St. John's Ambulance Service for 5 years and was selected as Cadet of the Year for Greater Manchester. She teaches first aid in schools and to younger cadets in the service, as part of her duties. Emma has also visited Buckingham Palace, as part of the national Young Achievers Award programme, for the determination and courage she demonstrated whilst looking after her grandfather, who died from cancer recently and for whom Emma was a full-time carer during her college studies. She has taken part in karate classes for the past 2 years and supports her epileptic sister during these classes, proving to be a superb friend and family member. She is also participating in this year's Race For Life in Manchester, in July, to raise money for Cancer Research UK in memory of her grandfather. Emma's determination is particularly made evident when considering that this year Emma had her gall bladder removed. Despite this major operation, she has continued to excel, maintain great results in her studies and push herself beyond her best at all times.
