Emma's nomination story

5 years ago Emma had a brain tumour which nearly proved fatal. After her operation she never let her illness get her down, she strived to be positive and was determined to get back to full health. Since then she has consistently raised money for the brain tumour charity Hammer Out doing various runs, triathlons, fell walks, bike rides etc. She is now a black belt in Tai Kwon Do and helps at her TKD club with the new recruits as well as doing exhibitions in the local community. Emma always tries to be the best she can - at work, with friends and family and in sport. She is an incredibly inspirational person, always happy and positive, always helping others, always fair. Along with her extended family Emma ran the Bath Half Marathon only 6 months after her brain tumour operation - something that seemed miraculous at the time. I certainly never thought I would be able to run 13 miles! Following her inspirational character we all ran the race, raised money for Hammer Out and we are all still running five years later. When I have personally experienced difficult times, Emma has been the person to help me through those trials and has shown incredible positivity whenever things get tough. Emma's life revolves around sport and adventure - she is the embodiment of the Olympic Spirit. Carrying the Olympic Torch would be a wonderful gift to one of the most amazing people I know... ...And she loves Daly Thomson!
