Emma is Mum to Matthew (16) and Alice (15), Matthew is severely disabled caused by a catastrophic epilepsy syndrome. Emma cares for Matthew at home and yet in 2004 she founded a small charity to help parents of other children like Matthew, namely Matthew's Friends. Through Emma's hard work the charity is now known world-wide as THE place to go for all things related to Dietary Treatments for Epilepsy. Emma has worked tirelessly to help families and health care professionals and is admired by many across the globe for the extraordinary difference she has made to the lives of many. Matthew's Story is at www.matthewsfriends.org. Emma has forged relationships with many top medical professionals, such as Professor Helen Cross, the Prince of Wales's Chair for Childhood Epilepsy, who Chairs the Matthew's Friends medical board, whilst still supporting families by providing a 24 hr telephone helpline, ie her mobile phone! On a personal note, I have been Emma's friend for over 20 years and I have never met a more loving Mum or more motivated champion of children with refractory epilepsy. I would wholeheartedly LOVE to see Emma carry the Olympic torch - she is an avid Olympic Games viewer and is even taking to the roads herself later this year - running the Royal Parks half-marathon, to raise funds for her charity of course! Please do consider Emma, thank you, it would be wonderful to see her rewarded in such a fantastic way.
