Emma's nomination story

For over 10 years, Emma, an A & E nurse, has led groups of British young people to East Africa (Kenya) to work on charity projects in severely disadvantaged communities. Emma works with the young people to run summer camps for street children and help build schools, clinics and rescue centres, while also acting as the emergency service for the district! When people from the outlying villages find she is in the locality, Emma often finds herself having to deal with severe cases of malaria and various life-threatening illnesses. These people would not ordinarily seek treatment because they cannot afford it. The British young people Emma takes to Kenya are hugely inspired by her leadership and example and often return to Kenya to volunteer. I know they would be proud to support Emma's nomination to carry the Olympic Flame, as would those in Kenya who love her.
