Emily Shaw has been the Chairperson of Shetland Youth Voice for the past 18 months and recently been elected as Member of Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYP) for Shetland. Emily is a fair, friendly and outgoing individual that works extremely hard for the young people that she represents. Lately Emily and others have been working in Shetland to tackle the negative image of young people and have come together in partnership with our local weekly newspaper The Shetland Times. The column - launched in November 2010 - is there to celebrate the achievement and opportunities for young people in Shetland. Since then Shetland Youth Voice has gone from strength to strength and recent meetings have included visited by the SIC Executive Director for Education & Social Care and Northern Constabulary Local Authority Liaison Officer Jason Beeston. The forum looks forward to future meetings with NHS Shetland and many other organisations and individuals that deliver services to young people in Shetland. Emily has recieved local recognition for her committment/hard work and was selected as Shetland's first Individual Youth Volunteering Winner. The judges felt she had shown a strong commitment to her volunteering role, which includes being the chairperson of Shetland Youth Voice. Finally Emily also had the opportunity to meet MSP John Swinney, Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Sustainable Growth during his visit to Shetland to discuss the Independent Budget Review.
