Emily's nomination story

Following the 2004 Games,as a shy eight year old Emily joined our local athletics club. She began taking part in the cross county league and young athletes. These team events developed friendships,a great team spirit and taught respect for fellow athletes and officials. Athletics has also shown her that with hard work results will eventually come. Her determination to always be better next time has seen get her turn on the podium. In 2008 my Mum tragically died from cancer. Emily encouraged me to take up running and now each year we participate in the Race For Life in memory of a very special Nanna. In 2004 the Olympics inspired Emily to be part of athletics. In return athletics has given us a beautiful, happy, confident daughter. Emily is a wonderful example of how athletics can play such a positive role and deserves this nomination.
