Elizabeth's nomination story

(SSE) Liz makes a huge difference to her local community in Perthshire. She came to the UK from India several years ago and has a very strong sense of community. She works as a volunteer for PKAVS (Perth and Kinross Association of Voluntary Service) - where she carries out various roles but works closely with Young carers (children who must look after their parents from a young age, often with little support, and at the expense of their own development and education) She planned a 'Bollywood' event for these children, aimed at increasing awareness of Indian culture and allowing theses children to have some fun and respite, which was a huge success. She has also just returned from a volunteer 'holiday' in hungry, teaching impoverished children English. She was also awarded the Inveramsay medal by Contemporary Scotland in recognition of the time she gives to support the Young Scotland programme. In her spare time she is teaching someone Hindi in preparation for missionary work in India. She is an incredible individual and I would like to see this recognised further, Liz has made me think of ways in which I could help my community. Liz is an exceptionally positive and socially responsible person and would represent SSE very well in the relay.
