Liz's nomination story

Elizabeth 'Liz' is an individual who makes an incredible difference within her local area. Her help for the elderly and the community in North Dorset in priceless; she has helped create and run a 'memory cafe' for sufferers of dementia and their carers to meet fortnightly for friendly company. It is difficult for many carers to meet other people in the same situation as themselves but the cafe helps them to relax and put aside the difficulties in their lives. As well as this she was secretary of a committee to help secure funding for tiered seating within the local secondary school's new drama facilities so that it can host top quality dramatic and dance performances for the area. She continues to help in her day job as a community psychiatric nurse dealing with elderly dementia. She is the manager of her team and has been nursing for well over 20 years. Despite the troubles and traumas that she faces in this role, she always has a broad smile on her face and her laughter and personality is infectious. She never shies away from helping people in the street and is truly a good Samaritan.
