Elizabeth (Libby) Kennedy has worked tiredlessly for over 10 years in the village of Newcastleton in the Scottish Borders to provide an excellent sports facility for the local community. The village experiences a great deal of rural deprivation and previously lacked facilities or activities for young people, as well as the older generations, to enjoy. She had the vision for 'Polysport', an all-weather astroturf sports pitch alongside a sports pavilion that incorporates a state-of-the-art gym, and chaired the committee that steered the development of this now indispensable amenity. Over the years she has spent many hours applying for grants for the project and driving local fundraising ventures, as well as organising sports coaching and events once Polysport had been established. She continues to have enthusiasm for sport and for giving local young people the opportunity to develop their ability and enjoy physical activity. Libby has inspired local people to gain skills through sports coaching training, and many young people have excelled in their chosen sport as a result of the facility. Polysport has gained several awards, which reflects its immense value as a community amenity. Libby is very modest about the dedication and perseverance she has shown to establish and maintain this prized resource for the community, and thoroughly deserves consideration to carry the Olympic flame as recognition of her service to Newcastleton.
