Eileen's nomination story

Eileen is simply an amazing 81 year old (young) lady who lives life to the full through her various volunteering roles. On Mondays she can been found serving lunches at the local Age Concern pop in. Every Tuesday for the past 25 years she has volunteered at a local Age Concern day centre, serving teas, lunches, providing a friendly listening ear and making sure everyone has an enjoyable time. Wednesdays are spent at the local hospital serving refreshments to patients receiving chemotherapy, a volunteering role she took up following the death of her husband from cancer in 2005. Thursdays back at the hospital in the morning, moving on to the Community & Volunteering Services office in the afternoon to volunteer as a receptionist. Friday mornings, housework, her least favourite job, and volunteering and line dancing at the Age Concern Pop In Centre in the afternoon. Last year she was the oldest participant in the local Race for Life, raising funds for a cause very close to her heart. Alongside all of this she is a committee member with the WI and enjoys a game of bingo on a Monday evening, loves to gossip with family and friends and never says no to a shopping trip. All of this is done with quiet, friendly dignity, touching the hearts of everyone she meets. A truly shining, inspirational person whose services to the community deserve to be recognised.
