I would like to nominate my Dad as I am very proud of him and feel he deserves the recognition for all his voluntary work over the past 40 years in his local commuinity. He has always lived in the Dover area, except for when he was evacuated to Swindon during the war. He has been a member of the British Red Cross for as long as I can remember, teaching first aid and nursing courses to hundreds of people over the years. He has helped out at numerous local disaters such as bombing at Marine Barracks, hovercraft crash into the harbour wall, sinking of the Herald of Free Enterprise (including support during the corners inquests to some families). Ongoing help at local fates, fairs, runs and sporting events that are too many to count. For many years he voluntered at Buckland Hospital in Dover on a Sunday evening and became part of the team. He has been called out to help lorry drivers stuck on the M20 in the snow. He was awarded the Mayors award in recognition for his work locally. I would make me so proud if he could become an Olympic Torch Bearer in his community. He would run for his family and all the people he has helped and supported over numerous years.
