Doug's nomination story

Doug has just retired after 23 years as Head of a local primary. He has made sport the focus of the school, organising a cross country event that involves over 20 schools in the region every year. He coaches U11 cricket for the county of Cleveland and offers children access to football, cricket, netball, gymnastics, orienteering and swimming to name but a few extra curricular activities he is responsible for. After retirement Doug has arranged to go back as a volunteer to continue the sporting provision that he has spent so long developing. He has always encouraged children of all ages and abilities to be active, being the first in the area to build an adventure playground at school and accompanying 3 year groups to outward bound centres every year. He is 64 years old and still running marathons. He is a complete inspiration and passionate about sport.
