If you play football in Hexham, boy or girl, from eight to just before your knees go, you have Doug to thank. Doug needs to carry the torch because he so doesn't want to. That's the kind of man he is, he has already nominated two other people he has inspired to carry the torch. He doesn't know he has inspired them, that's not what he's about. He just does his best most days of the week after a hard days work to see to it that people in the area get as much enjoyment out of the sport he loves as possible. He has just last year realised a twenty year dream to provide a new football complex with three pitches and modern changing facilities for the people of Hexham. He doesn't want any credit, he won't take any credit, he probably doesn't even believe he deserves any credit. But he does, he is to football in Hexham what Athens is to the Olympics. Quite simply no Doug, no football! To be able to cheer Dougie on as he does his leg of the torch bearing would be a wonderful chance for the people of Hexham to say thanks Dougie, thanks very much. There was a team of us involved in the new facilities, alot of people were involved I just helped to keep it going
