Doug Maxey

My grandad is an inspirational 82 year old. He sums up health, activity and community - everything the Olympics represents. He recently became a widower but still plays badminton twice a week with his over 50s group (he has played for more than 30 years),cycles almost every day (10 miles at a time), plays bowls at the bowling club and recently took up tennis. He is a self taught, lifelong yoga fan and is more limber than people half his age. As well as sports, he also volunteers at a local primary school every week, helping children with their reading and literacy skills. He is a huge advocate for community sports, education and staying active. He leads a busy life and would be a superb torchbearer in Greater Manchester!
