Douglas is a young carer helping look after his younger brother Patrick who is profoundly autistic and has cystic fibrosis. Douglas willingly helps in all aspects of Patricks personal care, also ensuring he takes his medicines and joining in physiotherapy sessions to make them fun. Life with autism and CF is very unpredictable but Douglas never complains if something doesn't go to plan and an outing or event has to be put off. His philosophy is that if it doesn't happen today then maybe tomorrow would be good. Douglas is also involved with community radio and one of the youngest presenters. He is very well respected throughout the station and presents a weekly show for which he researches all his material and music. He is actively involved with fundraising at the station and he also fundraises on his own to donate to the CF team at RACH where Patrick is a patient. A local community councillor was moved by Douglas's role in caring for his brother and described it as 'an act of human kindness that many 12 year olds would find beyond them'
