Dorothy Fox

Dr. Dorothy Fox is chairperson of the volunteer Bournemouth Lifeguard Corps who patrol the beach,for the safety of all, throughout the summer. She works tirelessly on their behalf, fundraising and doing extra activities to raise the profile of the club, which has approximately 100 members. She is proactive in the training of young people, to become qualified lifeguards. She has competed at local, national and world level in lifesaving events achieving gold in all events. The most recent being the World Masters Lifesaving Championships in Egypt in 2010, where she won 1 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals. She takes part, every year, in the 'pier to pier' charity swim for the British Heart Foundation, doing an open water 1.4 mile swim raisng money for the charity. Professionally, she is a researcher in the Centre for Event and Sport Research in the School of Tourism at Bournemouth University. Born and bred in Bournemouth she uses her knowledge and love of the town to support the local community, most recently as a volunteer on the Bicentenary events committee. At home, Dorothy is a loving wife of 32 years, a mother to 3 children, all of whom have or are going through university, and is the 'rock' of the family. Dorothy has always been there, as a loving, stable core to our family. She is not a high profile sportsperson, just a normal, active and giving member of our society and I feel that this, a lifelong dream, would be a fitting reward for her lifelong efforts.
