Doris's nomination story

For over a decade Doris and her husband would travel 2-3 hours to London where they worked long shifts with the homeless in shelters during the winter, specifically over the Christmas period. During this time Doris washed the hair of the homeless. When her husband was diagnosed with cancer Doris devoted her fundraising efforts to the Marie Curie Foundation. After retirement, Doris has completed countless lengthy and active fundraising activities including parachute jumps, long swims, abseiling down Leasowe lighthouse and treks across Morecambe Bay and the Andes, the latter of which awarded Doris for raising the most money ever for this event. At 71 she completed a ¼ mile zip wire from 400 feet up being the oldest person in the event. Doris maintains an active role in the local church she attends and is also involved in long term knitting activities for those in underdeveloped countries.
