In 2010 Donald was the driving force (Chair and acting Treasurer and Secretary) of the Scottish Widows Charity Committee. This committee raised money for Lloyds Banking Group's Charity of the Year: the British Heart Foundation (BHF). Donald led the committee by example, running events such Battle of the Bands 2010, a Party Night and bake sales. The substantial funds raised through these events went towards funding BHF nurses and other heart health professionals, benefitting many heart patients throughout the UK.
In January, Donald founded the Edinburgh charity forum, providing support for charity champions in the Edinburgh area. Donald is currently chair of this forum, and has set an example to others by organising bake sales and bucket collections, a quiz night, a charity open golf tournament. Battle of the Bands 2011 is now being worked on. The money raised is helping the Group's current Charity of the Year: Save the Children, run FAST projects to help disadvantaged children get the best start to education.
Donald also organises a monthly dress down Friday collection within his business area, which benefits a wide range of charities nominated by colleagues.
