Donald MacInnes is a committee member of the Edinburgh Diving Club.
The diving club supports young people in keeping the children fit and healthy and provides them with great life experience on trips away to compete for the club.
Donald is responsible for both fundraising and kit co-ordinator; he also acts as a chaperone giving up weekends to take the clubs members to competitions across the UK. Over the last three years, Donald has played a considerable role in the Diving Club, raising in excess of £14,000. This has been achieved through various activities which Donald has helped co-ordinate. In particular race nights, sponsored events, home-baking stalls and supermarket bag-packing, all carried out in his own time.
Donald organised a design competition where the children had the opportunity to design their new kit to ensure they felt involved and played an integral part in its selection. The overall winning and runner-up designs were both incorporated in different garments within the kit. Donald spent time sourcing all the kit from suppliers and co-ordinated the printing and embroidering as well as negotiating a substantial discount on T-shirts in exchange for having the printer's logo on the sleeve.
Due to Donald's efforts the children received 70% subsidised kit and were able to take part in events in Harrogate and Bradford.
Donald has also helped co-ordinate a Day to Make a Difference at Waverley Care Milestone in Edinburgh. This lead to an improved environment for the respite patients to relax in whilst in care. He has offered to carry on helping out on an ad-hoc basis to maintain the garden/greenhouse.
