Dominic's nomination story

Dominic was taken into care at the age of 9 and was forced to move away from his family and friends. He was moved from care home to care home, became involved in various anti-social activities and had been out of education for a number of years. Dom was eventually referred to to alternative education provider. The centre signed him up for The Prince's Trust XL programme, a 2-year programme for young people at risk of underachieving, truanting or being excluded. Through the course Dominic decided he wanted to pursue a career in media and applied to study Level 2 media studies at the local college. He was accepted onto the course, the 1st time the college have permitted McKee students onto a Level 2 programme. Dominic has just completed the course with a distinction, winning a college award for his commitment. He has now gone on to study for his Level 3 National Diploma in Media Studies and is currently on track to pass with a distinction too. Dominic was the nominated for and won the award of Educational Achiever of the Year award at the Princess Trust Celebrate Success Awards 2011. Following this Dominic was invited to become an ambassador for the Prince Trust and has accepted this Role. I would like to nominate Dominic because he shown me that no matter how many obstacles are stacked against you, with the right attitude, it is possible to achieve the things you would never have expected.
