Dilip's nomination story

Dilip Kumar Roy, 67, co-founder of the Hindu Pragati Sangha & its general secretary since 1977, he has been serving the community for over 34 years. He has been leading the fundraising efforts to build a permanent temple in the Olympic borough of Tower Hamlets. For over 25 years, the Hindu Pragati Sangha association have operated out of what was once a rundown garage in Mile End. They are now turning their base in Rhondda Grove into a full temple, complete with traditional Indian architectural features. The temple will be first of its type for Bengali Hindu's in the UK & will allow the group to continue their tradition of festivals, which attract people from all over Britain. The construction is due to be complete in October 2011. He is known all over the country for his dedication & is known for being instrumental in making this first Hindu Bengali temple & deserves to be a torch bearer.
