Derek's nomination story

Derek Prentice represented GB in the doubles disciple at the 1980 Olympic Winter Games in Lake Placid, achieving the highest placed doubles result ever recorded by GB. He was unable to complete at the 1984 Winter Games due to a major injury sustained whilst training for those games. Consequently he was team captain and then became Chairman of the NGB; a post which he still holds some 27 years on. During this time Derek has given up numerous weeks of his time during the winter and summer to support the sport of Luge. He continues to coach novices and juniors at his own expense and is a huge supporter of the participation of youngsters in sport; away from winter sports he coaches a junior ruby team in SW London. Derek is the ultimate volunteer and a most worthy candidate to participate in the 2012 Torch Relay.
