Derek's nomination story

Derek has, for eight years now, trained youth girls football teams. He has done this in his own free time with a great amount of passion and energy. He keeps girls engaged through a range of well thought out training sessions, and tours which he plans. These take up a lot of his free time, but he still organises them with enthusiasm. Currently, he coaches the Boroughmuir High School team and has been a key part in keeping girls involved in sport in a time when many give it up completely. Due to a knee injury he can't play football himself but this hasn't stopped him from channelling his energy into making football a sport readily accessible to girls within his community and helping to remove the idea that football is only for boys. Derek is an inspiration for many girls to try their hardest regardless of their ability. All this makes me proud to be his daughter. Thank you Dad.
