Carrying the Flame on
Timsy's nomination story

Whilst recovering from a spine operation just weeks earlier, my dad, David Timms launched a one man rescue bid for 2 women trapped in a car after it had plunged 40ft from a bridge onto a road below. Despite wearing a restrictive back brace, he climbed down the embankment & after calling the emergency services, managed to pull one of the women free of the wreckage & kept the other woman conscious in the car whilst they waited for the ambulance & firebrigade to arrive. His story made him one of the winners of the Ocean FM Local Heroes 2002, and I have never been prouder. This was a major selfless act, but he does so many others and asks for nothing in return. He is always helping my mum out at church and the local community. In the heavy snow this year, he took the day off and hired a minibus so he could collect all the house bound old folk from their homes so that they could go to their Sunday Soup and Sweet that my mum arranges. I would love to see my dad carry the Olympic flame for Britain - it would be the ultimate reward for him and it would be my thanks to him for being my hero and inspiration.
