David's nomination story

Dave joined St Oswald's Hospice, Newcastle, as a chef in 1992. His dedication has gone beyond his day job - raising over £10,000 for families across the region in his spare time. Dave, taking inspiration from patients and families he meets, has completed many gruelling challenges including cycling Landsend to John O'Groats. In 2010 Dave ran the London, New York and Kielder Marathons and carried a fridge on his back to mark his 5th Great North Run. Dave will go even further at this year's Great North Run - carrying his fridge whilst pushing a Day Hospice patient in her wheelchair. Dave also volunteers at Hospice events, cooks with Children's Service users and at Christmas, delivers presents to patients throughout the Hospice. Dave's determination has inspired families from across the North-East. As a torchbearer, his infectious enthusiasm would capture the attention of people across the UK and around the world.
