David's nomination story

David has a learning disability, epilepsy and cerebral palsy and leads an active life through various activities at the Community Access Service, Hounslow, (which supports people with learning disabilities). David is a cheerful young man with a very positive and respectful attitude towards people, and, an optimistic outlook on life. Despite communication difficulties (non-verbal), he manages to make himself understood. He consistently takes an active lead and involvement in our projects, inspiring skills and confidence amongst his peers, including people more able than him. In particular, David has used his creative IT and art skills in designing flyers and other material to promote opportunities for people with learning disabilities. These abilities have proved to be extremely helpful to our service, and in conveying a positive image of people with learning disabilities in their community. He is a committed member of our football team, always giving 100%, playing hard, but fair. He also loves participating in kayaking and gardening. He has recently overcome very tragic circumstances, having dealt with the trauma of his brother being murdered. Not only is he having to come to terms with the loss, but, very recently had to sit through the trail at which the culprits were sentenced. Despite all the suffering, he remains positive about the challenges life presents, and has been an inspiration and support to his grieving parents.
