Nigel's nomination story

Nigel has been involved in Dragon Boating in his home town of Worcester for the past 20 years. During this time he has devoted a great deal of his time and energy to promoting the sport to the local community and has ran annual charity events which have raised over £20,000 for local causes. Recently, in conjuction with the West Mercia Police Authority, he has initiated a Youth Inclusion Programme which has engaged local disadvantaged youngsters into the sport. Some of these have experienced severe hardship and Dragon Boating has been a life changing experience. To support this programme he has secured in excess of £20,000 of grant monies, this has enabled the younsters to be given proper protective kit and the chance to attend race events around the country. Last year he secured funding for one of the under 18 club members to represent Great Britain in the European Championships in Amsterdam. This individual is one of the most underprivilaged members of the Worcester Dragon Boat Racing Club. Nigel has also provided support and funding for a new boat to promote a Breast Cancer Survivors team, this has been supported by the Consultant Oncologist. He gives his time freely and is always willing to help and give advice, he has been actively involved in securing a club house for the Worcester Dragon Boat Racing Club. Please can Nigel be given the opportunity of carrying the torch up a section of the River Severn in Worcester in the central part of the town on a dragon boat.
