Dave's nomination story

Dave Jolly has been selected as a torchbearer for dedicating a lifetime to sport in Bolton. Dave first became involved in rounders in 1979, and 32 years on, he still assembles the pitch at every home game. He turned just a few matches into the biggest single organised league of sport in the UK. In 1983 he became a member of the BSF Rounders League Committee, and started an annual charity collection which raised over £100,000 in 2010. Dave is now Chairman at BSF. He names his greatest achievement as setting up the school based millennium league, which introduced hundreds of children to the sport and created the first pool of 25 qualified coaches. He is an excellent ambassador for local sport and has played a major part in its development in Bolton. His current aim is to reinstate a derelict sports ground into one of Bolton's best recreational areas.
