Dave Jackson is being nominated for his dedication to HM Coastguard. Dave has been a volunteer Coastguard for over 40 years and is the Station Officer of Lands End Coastguard Rescue Team. He is dedicated to his volunteer role and is always ready to respond regardless of the time of day or the weather conditions or family pressures. He has led his team during the response to many incidents including the tragic loss of the Union Star and the Penlee lifeboat, a night that will be etched in his mind forever. Behind the scenes, Dave gives up many hours to check and maintain the rescue equipment to ensure that the team are available any time or night. Dave demonstrates outstanding leadership skills and is an inspiration to fellow volunteers. Over the years, he has trained, mentored and supported countless of men and women, young and senior, from all walks of life. Dave tackles every challenge with enthusiasm, courage and well placed humour. Dave has made an enormous contribution to the local community through his dedication and excellent volunteer ethos. He has supported and participated in coastguard fund raising for the Jubilee Trust as well as participating in countless educational initiatives to increase awareness of beach and sea safety amongst locals and visitors.
